Behzad “Buzz” Rankouhi started his research on Additive Manufacturing in 2014 when he joined the SDSU graduate program. He collaborated with Made In Space, the startup that built the first 3D printer on board of the International Space Station (ISS), to characterize parts made in zero gravity. He further studied the effects of gamma radiation on 3D printed samples for aerospace and medical applications. Upon joining the UW-Madison PhD program in 2016, he changed his focus from polymer to metal Additive Manufacturing. Currently, Buzz is collaborating in multidisciplinary research between departments of mechanical engineering and materials science and engineering with a focus on multi-material selective laser melting.
